Linford Fisheries

Linford Fisheries sits on a site over 350 acres in size with 14 different fishing options ranging from carp speciality lakes, general course fishing lakes, canals and a stretch of river to choose from.

Linford Fisheries was originally formed from the land where the sand & gravel was extracted to build Milton Keynes. Originally stocked with fish by the Birmingham Angling Club. The site has been owned by the Marle family since 1991.

We have a great stock of fish to suit any angler. We also offer a Fisherman’s Clubhouse on site, with a café open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.

Our History

The lakes have a rich and evolving history that dates back several decades. Originally owned by ARC (Aggregates Research Council), the land was excavated for sand and gravel, which played a key role in building the nearby town of Milton Keynes. By 1970, the site had been transformed into a demonstration showground by ARC to exhibit how former quarries could be restored into natural spaces like lakes, woodlands, and parklands.

The area first became known to anglers when it was stocked by the Birmingham Angling Club. In 1985, the site was taken over by Linear Fisheries, who began to stock the waters with carp, shaping its identity as a carp fishing destination.

In 1991, David Marle purchased the site, introducing a debenture system two years later in 1993. David moved on-site permanently in 1995, overseeing the ongoing development of the venue into what it is today.

One notable water, Linford 1, remained untouched for some time as a designated bird reserve. It was first stocked in 1993 and has since been carefully managed, now home to an impressive stock of carp reaching up to 49lbs, with many fish in the 30lb–40lb range.

The Fishing Masters competition was hosted on the site during its early years, adding to its growing reputation. In 1997, a lakeside clubhouse was built overlooking Blackhorse Lake, enhancing facilities for visiting anglers.

Looking to the future, the site will be expanding its offerings with a small tackle shop for essential gear, a café, doggy day care services, and special events featuring guest speakers from the angling world.

From industrial beginnings to a thriving fishing destination, the lakes continue to grow while staying rooted in their unique heritage.
